My writing vocation truly began in Shetland after a unique fly / drive holiday in the Summer of 2011, and I remember writing this ‘off the cuff’ within about half an hour in October 2011.
It was published by Promote Shetland to promote the Islands as a holiday destination and it leveraged a private invite to the Up Helly Aa Viking Fire Festival in January 2013.
That was an incredible experience and it was quite telling that I began that year celebrating the end of winter in Shetland only to end up relocating to Edinburgh in November 2013 and celebrating the year end on Princes Street.
